Carrot nd Peas Pulav...Happy Republic Day

My carrot, rice, peas and raisin flag

I miss waking up late on Jan 26th, fitting in the uniform and rushing to school to salute the National flag hoisted by the principal.
But, for us kids it was just another ruined holiday only to run back home to watch the ending credentials of the Republic day Parade on TV.
Our ancestors have paid a price that we can never return them back for achieving this land for us...Well, today it's only a reason to celebrate a holiday.. we forget the importance and responsibilities as a citizen and all about it the next day!
I have never looked up the flag pole the day after Jan 26th to see if it was still waving high with the wind! Why? I forgot, The holiday was over. May be I was busy mugging up the indian history chapter for the Unit test.

Today I stand proud to be called an Indian though deep inside a hint of pain resides knowing corruption and bad governance is eating up almost all parts of India!

So, I wanted to feel good and make a flag. And that led to my son's another favorite lunch.
Carrot and peas pulav. It's healthy and yummy.

1/2 cup Rice
1 medium size carrot grated
1/2 Cup green peas
1/2 tsp garam masala
Turmeric, salt to taste
1 TBSP Ghee
1/2 cummin seeds

Pressure cook rice, carrots and peas with salt...
I cook the rice until its a little mushy because my baby loves the mushy rice texture.
In a pan heat the ghee, add mustard seeds... when they stop spluttering add cummin, a pinch asafoetida, turmeric and garam masala.
Add this to the cooked rice
My baby loves the spiciness of garam masala.
Mix in 1/2 tsp ghee and serve.
